The Meridian Bridge, constructed in 1924, changed the regions economy. In 2010 it gained new purpose as it is converted from vehicle traffic to pedestrian use.  The nearly $5 million dollar project included structural repairs, spot painting, lighting and railings.  The 2010 project is expected to extend the lifespan of the bridge by at least another 25 years.
