Municipal Elections for the City of Yankton are held the second Tuesday in April and may be combined with the Yankton School District.

 To run for Commissioner:  Beginning January 31, 2025, petitions may be circulated.  At least fifty (50) signatures from City of Yankton registered voters are required.  Deadline for filing nominating petitions is 5:00 pm on Friday February 28, 2025. 

Absentee Voting in-person will be available Monday, March 24th through April 7th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the City Hall Gym (416 Walnut Street).  To request a mail in ballot, a South Dakota Absentee Ballot Application Form must be completed.

Election Day is April 8th, 2025.  Vote Centers will be located at the City Hall Gym (416 Walnut) and the North Fire Station #2 (201 W. 23rd Street).  Polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Remember to update your voter registration: To vote for City Commission candidates, you must live within Yankton city limits, and be registered with the Yankton County Auditor.
