The City of Yankton revised the Sign Ordinance in 2013 in an effort make it more effective.  After public meetings and consultation with the Planning Commission and city staff the City Commission adopted a new sign code with the following goals:

1. Streamlining the permitting process through a series of regulated exemptions making the process more user friendly, and
2. Reducing some of the less desirable types of signage thereby helping with the overall image of the community, and
3. Modernizing the language including the addition of language that reflects current technology and court decisions related to signs.

Signage regulations are found in Chapter 27 Article III of the City of Yankton's Code of Ordinances
