TRANSFER STATION ATTENDANT
The City of Yankton is seeking qualified applicants for Transfer Station Attendant in the Public Works Department.
An employee in this position is responsible for separating wood, metal and chemicals from garbage and pushing wood into a pile for chipping. This position pushes shingles and water sediments into pit and grasses into a pile for future composting and concrete and gravel into piles for storage. This position fills transfer trailers with correct weight and pulls out full transfer trailers and replaces them with empty trailers. The attendant loads recycling trailers with all recycling materials brought in by public and recycling route trucks and performs routine maintenance on heavy equipment such as skid and pay loaders used at transfer station and operates skid loaders, pay loaders and semi tractors in the performance of duties. This position advises customers using the facilities, assists with scale house and composting operations and pushes snow at Transfer Station and may assist Streets with snow plowing and removal.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and six months’ experience in equipment maintenance/operation and/or solid waste disposal work. Candidates must possess a valid South Dakota commercial driver’s license, Class B, or be able to obtain one within (6) months of hire.
This is a regular full-time position. The salary range for this position is Range 28, $44,205 to $55,964. Applications are available on the city website
