1985: The Year of the Spy

Spies in our midst, moles in the government, and military secrets sold to the highest bidder might sound like the plot of a great book, but in the 1980s it was headline news.

On Sunday, March 26, at 2:00 pm., learn what motivates people to spy and hear the history of several spy cases from the 1980s from historian and Yankton native Greg Nedved. Participants can attend in person at the Yankton Community Library’s meeting room or virtually at https://meet.goto.com/764296661. This event is free open to the public.

Greg Nedved has been a historian at the Center for Cryptologic History at Fort George G. Meade, MD, since 2011 and is President of the National Museum of Language in College Park, MD. Before this, he had spent much of his professional career (military and government) working as a linguist, translator, and instructor of the Chinese language. He is the author of many books and periodicals with topics as diverse as flags to presidential foreign language trivia.
