The Yankton Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will host a ribbon cutting for the official opening of the City of Yankton’s Boundless Play Area in Riverside Park on Tuesday, May 30, at 4:30pm.
The boundless play area has been open to the general public since May 5. It has been well received and well used by Yankton residents and visitors. It has been a valuable addition to the beautiful Riverside Park. The boundless play area expands play opportunities for children and adults of all abilities and especially those who face obstacles that impede their full participation in society, bringing children, adults, and families together in a warm, inviting atmosphere of recreation and play. The City of Yankton residents and community visitors can now realize the freedom to play without frustration, ridicule or fear on this playground as the ramps allow for access on to the play structure while the artificial turf surface below and around the play area allows for easy movement by those with mobility issues.
The City of Yankton encourages the general public to attend the ribbon cutting at 4:30pm and then to stay in Riverside Park for a night of fun family activities. Starting at 5:00pm there will be the 26th Annual Yankton Area Arts Kids Art Fest with partnerships from a dozen local organizations offering FREE make and take arts and craft projects for elementary aged children at the large shelter. Also in the park that evening, the Yankton Area Summer Band Concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. at the Riverside Park Amphitheatre under the direction of guest conductor Kevin McLouth, Director of Instrumental Studies at Northeast Community College.
The all-volunteer band boasts an average annual membership of 70-100 musicians ranging from students to professionals from Yankton and the surrounding communities.
Rehearsal for those wanting to participate in the band begins at 6:30 p.m. and it is open for all musicians (high school or older) that have interest.
